Fake News is a Major Source of Insecurity in Nigeria – Brig Gen Kawugana

The Commander, 9 Brigade Nigerian Army, Ikeja Cantonment, Brigadier General Sale Kawugana has said that fake news is the major source of insecurity in the country and the government is the major victim.

Gen. Kawugana stated this on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) led by its President,  Mr. Samson Oki and other Executive members.

These, apart from the Covid-19 that struck the country in February 28, 2020, have infested the country like a behemoth, emasculating people and depleting their economic prosperity.

Three members of the Oyo State Executive Council are have contracted COVID-19.

The state Governor, Seyi Makinde, made this known in a series of tweets on Wednesday.

The identity of the executive council members was, however, not disclosed.

I did not donate N1 billion to COVID-19 fund — Obi

Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the last Presidential  elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has dismissed reports making the rounds in social media circles that he donated a billion Naira to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) relief fund.
“I have not donated to the fund,” Obi said in a statement issued on Tuesday afternoon by his Media Office and signed by Mr. Valentine Obienyem.
Reacting to the list of purported donors to the fund, which has gone viral, in which his name appears as number 33 and a billion Naira indicated as the amount he has allegedly donated, Obi said the issue at hand was “so scary and of great importance to the world, especially our dear country, to be tainted by any manner of fake news.” He implored purveyors of fake news to desist from that.

COVID-19: Give Nigerians One-Month Free Subscription, Keyamo Urges DSTV, MTN, Others

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, has asked direct broadcast satellite service providers in Nigeria to support the fight against COVID-19 by giving Nigerians an extension on their current subscription. 
In a series of tweets on Monday, Keyamo pleaded with DSTV and Star Times to extend existing subscriptions by one month.

BREAKING: US Commence Evacuation of Citizens From Nigeria Over Coronavirus

The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced the commencement of evacuation of its citizens from Nigeria.
This is happening after Germany, Israel, and France evacuated their nationals following the rising cases of coronavirus disease in the country.
The Embassy confirmed the development Monday night on its official Twitter handle, @US Mission Nigeria.

Seyi Makinde: Oyo State Governor Tests Positive For Coronavirus

Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde has tested positive for coronavirus.
He made the disclosure via his Twitter handle.
“I just received my COVID-19 confirmation test result. It is POSITIVE. I am asymptomatic and will continue to self-isolate.

University Of Ibadan Team Predicts 312 Coronavirus Cases By Friday

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Nigeria will be at least 312 by Friday, April 3, the University of Ibadan Committee on COVID-19 Data Analysis and Management has revealed.
As of 10.40pm on Saturday, March 28, Nigeria had recorded 97 confirmed cases of coronavirus.
This was an increase of 27 cases from the 70 confirmed cases as of 8pm on Friday, March 27.
The UI team predicted that if the current trend continued, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria would hit 312 by Friday, April 3.

President Buhari To Address Nigerians by 7pm Tonight

President Muhammadu Buhari will address the Country by 7pm on Sunday.
The was revealed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.
“Television, radio, and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) respectively for the broadcast,” he said.

Coronavirus Cases May Rise To 39,000 In Lagos State – Health Commissioner

Commissioner for Health in Lagos State, Akin Abayomi has said coronavirus cases in the state may rise to 39,000.
Abayomi at a briefing on Friday urged people to adhere to the social distancing advice of the state government to check the spread of the disease.
He said, “Our mathematical modelling shows that the worst-case scenario is that we may see up to 39,000 cases in Lagos, but if everyone practices good social distancing, the figure will be limited to 13,000.

Coronavirus: President Buhari Approves Immediate Release Of N15bn To Lagos, NCDC

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate release of N15 billion to the Lagos State government and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to help curb the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19) in the country.
In a series of tweets on Thursday via his official page, the President revealed that the approval followed the extensive briefings he received recently on the state of the nation, as it relates to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He ordered that the sum of N10 billion grant be immediately released to Lagos State to boost the government’s capacity to control and contain the outbreak, as well as support other states with capacity-building.

Confirmed Cases Of Coronavirus In Nigeria Rise To 44

Two new cases of COVID-19, also known as Coronavirus, have been confirmed in Nigeria.
One of the new cases was confirmed in Abuja and another in Bauchi State.
According to the National Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, the cases have travel history to Germany and the UK

JUST IN: Medical Supplies Donated By Chinese Billionaire, Jack Ma To Fight Coronavirus Arrives Nigeria

Medical supplies donated to African nations by Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba Group, have arrived Lagos.
The shipment, which came through an Ethiopian Airlines flight, carried 5.4 million face masks, 1.08 million detection tests, 40,000 sets of protective clothing and 60,000 sets of protective face shields.

I warned Nigerians about Buhari – Yakasai

Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, 92, a chip from the old block, served as President Shehu Shagari’s Liaison Officer to the National Assembly. In this interview, he reviews the state of the nation and critically dissects the arguments for restructuring.


Yakasai also pooh-poohs moves to delineate the Middle Belt from the North saying that the concept of a Middle North toeing a separate political path as unrealistic. Yakasai who supported President Goodluck Jonathan against Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential election concludes by saying that his warnings that Buhari lacked five critical elements of leadership have crystallised for all to see.
