STILL WATER, ENDURING PEACE, GOLDEN DAWN: ARMY REELS OUT SUCCESSES, SAYS EXERCISES NOT TAGETED AT MILITARY OCCUPATION

The Nigerian Army has said that its exercises launched early October to bring about peace in various regions of the nation as the Yuletide season approaches, are yielding veritable successes.

While reeling out the successes the exercises, which include Still Waters, Enduring Peace and Golden Dawn, have achieved, the Director, Army Public Relations, who represented the Chief of Army Staff, General Yahaya Farouk, maintained that the exercises were not targeted at military occupation of the South East zone, adding that the operations cover the southeast, southwest, southsouth and North Central zones.

OHANAEZE NDIGBO EXTOLS NIGERIAN ARMY AS GOC LAGBAJA EXTENDS HANDS OF COOPERATION

The President General Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide Ambassador George Obiozo has commended the Nigerian Army for its role in restoring peace to South East Region.

He made the commendation in Enugu when he hosted the General Officer Commanding 82 Division, Maj Gen Taoreed Lagbaja on a courtesy visit today.

The Chief of Army Staff Maj Gen Faruk Yahaya have charged the troops of 82 Division Nigerian Army to remain selfless and disciplined in the discharge of their duties.

He made this assertion during his address to troops today 22 June 2021 at Abakpa Cantonment Enugu.

The new Commander, 9 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ikeja Cantonment, Lagos, Brig Gen Lader Saraso, has resumed duty.

He took over from Brig Gen Sale Kawugana, who has been redeployed to the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja.

Retirement: General Sues Nigerian Army

The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal has slated March 15 for the hearing of two applications challenging the alleged illegal retirement of Major General Ibrahim Sani from the Nigerian Army.

Before the retirement, General Sani was Chief of Transformation and Innovation Centre of the Nigerian Army.

A three-member panel of justices, led by Justice Abubakar Datti Yahaya, on Wednesday adjourned to enable the new counsel to Sani, Magaji Mahmoud (SAN), file the relevant processes.

Military stops admission of combatant female cadets

In a major policy reversal, the Nigerian military is set to end the admission of female cadets into the combatant course of the Nigerian Defence Academy, The PUNCH has learnt.

A set of 20 females, nicknamed Jonathan Queens, were first admitted into the course in Nigeria’s premier military officer training institution during the former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration in 2011.

It was learnt that the recommendation to end the programme was made by the Armed Forces Council which was inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari last week.
