The new Commander, 9 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ikeja Cantonment, Lagos, Brig Gen Lader Saraso, has resumed duty.
He took over from Brig Gen Sale Kawugana, who has been redeployed to the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja.
The new Commander, during his handing and taking over ceremony which took place at the conference Room of the brigade recently, craved for National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) support saying that the "media is suppose to be the watchdog of the society because they are everywhere."
He further reiterated that such support is imperative considering that the media is a necessary part of every society; hence it serves as a "check and balance" when it is practised within the purview of the law.
It is a wake-up call to anybody in position of authority that there are people you are supposed to be accountable to.
"As a public servant," he observed, "we are not an island to ourselves. Therefore, we need a formidable partnership with you. Sometimes, there may be some delays in messages and information.
We may not always be as supernatural to be everywhere at the same time. But with little patience, the picture would get clearer," Brig Gen Saraso emphasized.
However, he added that "everything we do on Internal Security whether in Lagos or elsewhere," they are actually playing a supportive role to the Nigerian Police.
"We need the collaborative efforts of other agencies. They need us just as we need them so that we would be able to achieve some synergy."
Brig Gen Saraso, therefore, called on the media to always draw his attention to any negative development or unpleasant situation going on so that such could be nipped in the bud before it escalates.
"You can report to meet the expectations of your organisation and we too, want to meet the expectations of Nigerians who actually entrusted us with these positions," he added.
Earlier, the outgone Commander, Brig Gen Sale Kawugana commended members of the fourth estate of the realm for their support during his short stint at the brigade soliciting that such candid support and robust relationship be extended to the new Commander.
Meanwhile, the outgoing Commander, Brig Gen Sale Kawugana was honored with NAOSNP Service Leadership Award by the Executive Members of the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) led by the National President, Mr. Oki Samson, for his exemplary leadership style during his short but, impactful service as the Commander, 9 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ikeja, Lagos.
