NIGERIAN ARMY RENAMES OPERATION IN THE NORTH EAST, SEEKS INCLUSIVENESS

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru has approved the renaming of the ongoing Cointerinsurgency Operation in the North East from Operation Lafiya Dole (OPLD) to Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK).

On Sunday 25 April 2021, troops of Operation Lafiya Dole deployed in Mainok, Borno State, came under multi-directional attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists mounted on unconfirmed number of Gun Trucks as well as foot soldiers with possible intent of establishing a phantom caliphate in the town.

Army Debunks Viral Online Report, Says Troops Are In Total Control of Damasak Village

The Nigerian Army has refuted claims that terrorist group, Boko Haram, has taken over Damasak, a town in Mobbar Local Government Area of Borno State, saying contrary to reports, its troops of Operation Lafiya Dole are in total control of troubled area.

The Emir of Damaturu, Alhaji Dr Shehu Hashimi II Ibn Umar El-Amin Kanemi has disclosed that the Yobe State Traditional Rulers Council are in total support of the ongoing military operations especially Operation Tura Takaibango that was launched by the Nigerian Army aimed at destroying all Boko Haram criminals/ Islamic States West Africa Province enclaves in the State.

Boko Haram: Trump to sell $600m fighter planes to Nigeria

The United States  has agreed to sell high-tech aircraft to Nigeria to tackle  the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East.
United States officials told the Associated Press that the Congress was  expected to receive formal notification within weeks, setting in motion the deal with Nigeria.
They added that the arrangement would call for Nigeria purchasing up to 12 Embraer A-29 Super Tucano aircraft with sophisticated targeting gear.

Boko Haram: Troops arrest nine suspected collaborators

Nigerian troops have arrested another nine suspects said to be aiding the Boko Haram sect in the North East Zone, bringing the number of those caught in the last two days to 30.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by army spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, the suspects included two officers, two soldiers, two policemen and 26 civilians.

Tears as freed 21 Chibok girls meet VP Osinbajo

There were strong indications on Thursday that the Federal Government freed some top Boko Haram commanders for the 21 Chibok girls, who were released by the insurgents at Banki, a border town between Nigeria and Cameroon.
The released girls were among the over 200 schoolgirls, who were kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists from the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, on April 14, 2014.

Military rescued 11,595 B’Haram captives under me – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday disclosed that the military had so far rescued 11,595 persons held captive by the Boko Haram sect between May 29, 2015 when he was inaugurated and February 2016.
He said since December 2015, the military had regained all territories hitherto occupied by the sect.
