#EndSARS: I stand by Nigerian youths, says Kalu

The Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has thrown his weight behind the Nigerian youths; who are calling for an end to police brutality in the country.

Kalu, a former governor of Abia State, expressed his feelings in a statement in Abuja on Thursday.

The Senator, who represents Abia North,  condemned the criminal abuse of power by officers of the proscribed Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, stressing that such an act must stop.

He said,  “The major responsibility of the Nigerian police is to ensure that they protect the lives and property of the citizenry”.

“It is indeed painful to hear that some members of the FORCE & SARS have misused the power vested on them to brutalize some citizens.”

Kalu condoled with the families who have lost their loved ones to Police brutality as well as those killed in the wake of the #EndSARS protests in many parts of the country.

He said, “My heartfelt condolence goes out to everyone that has lost his loved ones through police brutality and the ongoing protests.
“I stand with Nigerians and the Youths at these trying times.”
