Leave immediately, River Niger will soon overflow – NEMA warns nearby communities

Following intense rainfall and rise in water level, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has advised communities along the river Niger to evacuate immediately to safer ground as a result of the likelihood of floods that may occur, any moment from now.
Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani Sidi who gave the advice on Saturday said the agency has received alerts of the flood from information given by the authorities in the Republic of Niger that the present water level in the river had reached a point that may result in the flood that could be compared with the unfortunate experience of 2012.

Man, 43, assaults father, rapes mother

An Egor Magistrates’ Court in Benin, on Thursday, remanded one Humphrey Omoregieva, 43, in prison over alleged assault on his parents.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Ayo Augustine, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 1, at No. 294, Upper Mission, Benin.

Court jails film director seven years over rape

An Indian court on Thursday sentenced a Bollywood director to seven years in jail for raping an American research scholar last year, the victim’s lawyer said.
Mahmood Farooqui, best known for co-directing the popular 2010 satire “Peepli Live” on farmer suicides, was convicted on Saturday after a fast-track court in New Delhi found him guilty of the March 2015 attack.

Rapist marries 14-year-old victim to avoid jail

A Malaysian man who raped a 14-year-old girl avoided being thrown in jail after he married the young victim, sparking calls from angry activists for legal reforms on Thursday.
A court in the Malaysian state of Sarawak on Borneo island ruled last week there was “no necessity to proceed further with this case” following evidence that the two were married, the Borneo Post news website reported.

A Kenyan woman's hands were butchered and she was left with injuries to her head after she was brutally attacked by her husband, who blamed her for not being able to conceive any children during their seven-year marriage.

I am in touch with Niger Delta militants – Jonathan

Former President, Goodluck Jonathan, has disclosed that he was in touch with the Niger Delta militants to ensure that there is peace in the oil rich region.
He made this disclosure on Wednesday when he visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential villa, Abuja.
Recall that the militant group had few days ago stated that it backed out of its plan to declare Niger Delta Republic following the intervention of Jonathan and other leaders from the community.
