International flights resume as Middle East Airlines plane lands at Lagos airport

After a five-month closure of the Nigerian airspace to scheduled international flights due to lockdown occasioned by the coronavirus pandemic, foreign travel resumed in the country on Saturday when an aircraft operated by Middle East Airlines touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

The plane which took off from Beirut, Lebanon, landed at the airport at exactly 02:27 pm, The PUNCH can confirm.

No going back on planned protest against fuel price hike – TUC

The Trade Union Congress on Saturday says it will not go back on its decision to embark on a protest on Tuesday against the increase in the prices of fuel and electricity tariff despite speculations about a court order stopping the proposed demonstration.

TUC Deputy National President, Chika Onuegbu, who disclosed this to The PUNCH, said the union had begun to mobilise its members for the protest and strike.

About two years ago, I think, My 30 year old son showed me the bill payment of a night club receipt totaling N11.0M. I know my son moved around in a circle of friends and some were privileged children. I have raised my children well and I think they came out of the oven better prepared for life than I did when I was their age.

I asked him with a deep frown who paid for this. It was a receipt from some high brow night club on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, Victoria Island called Quilox. He said some funny guy had declared “surplus” for everyone and it was “MAD”.

Sanwo-Olu’s U-turn on reopening religious houses

The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has shown courage and tact expected of a leader, by cancelling indefinitely the plan to reopen mosques and churches billed for Friday, June 19 and Sunday, June 21, respectively. The governor based this on the rising cases of COVID-19 in the state.

EXCLUSIVE: Police grill D’Banj over rape allegation

The Nigeria Police Force has grilled Musician, Dapo Oyebanjo, aka D’Banj, over allegations of rape, The PUNCH can confirm.

It was learnt that D’Banj was grilled by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Adaku Anya, at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Garki, Abuja.

The state Governor, Seyi Makinde, made this known in a series of tweets on Wednesday.

The identity of the executive council members was, however, not disclosed.

BREAKING: Police Seal APC National Secretariat In Abuja

Armed Police personnel sealed the National Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress on the orders of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on Tuesday.

Currently, the secretariat is under key and lock.

According to the PUNCH, the IGP had scheduled a meeting with some of the feuding members of the party for 1 pm.
