No going back on planned protest against fuel price hike – TUC

The Trade Union Congress on Saturday says it will not go back on its decision to embark on a protest on Tuesday against the increase in the prices of fuel and electricity tariff despite speculations about a court order stopping the proposed demonstration.

TUC Deputy National President, Chika Onuegbu, who disclosed this to The PUNCH, said the union had begun to mobilise its members for the protest and strike.

NNPC to penalise defaulters of Procurement Act

The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Maikanti Baru, on Wednesday, warned the management and staff of the oil firm against any action that contravenes the provisions of the Public Procurement Act in the award of contracts.
According to Baru, severe penalties await any defaulter of the stipulations in the Procurement Act.
Baru cautioned employees of the firm against contract splitting and accumulation, which he described as a deliberate act by procurement managers to subvert due process in the procurement process.He gave the warning at a Supply Chain Management workshop for NNPC Procurement Managers at the corporation’s headquarters in Abuja.
He restated the corporation’s commitment to transparency in every aspect of its operations, stressing that all procurements and contract awards in NNPC under his watch so far had been carried out in conformity with the Public Procurement Act.

FG may increase fuel price as NNPC says N145 not sustainable

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has said it can no longer sustain the sale of petrol at N145 per litre.
Recall that Labour last month warned against increment in pump price.
Speaking yesterday, Group General Manager, Crude Oil Marketing of the NNPC, Mele Kyari, said with the current price of foreign exchange, it was no longer feasible selling petrol at N145 per litre.

BREAKING: Buhari removes Kachikwu as NNPC GMD, appoints Baru

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday approved the appointment of of Dr. Maikanti Kacalla Baru as the new Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.

The appointment was contained in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina.
With the latest appointment, Baru replaced Dr. Ibe Kachikwu who has been doubling as the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources and GMD, NNPC.

Niger Delta Avengers blow up NNPC, others’ facilities in Delta

THE federal government’s proposed peace talks with rampaging Niger Delta militants on Sunday morning suffered a major setback as the Niger Delta Avengers blew up several oil facilities belonging to Chevron and Nigerian Petroleum Development Corporation.
