Man rapes prostitute in Lagos

An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Tuesday remanded a 40-year-old bricklayer, Edet Imoh, in prison, charged with raping a sex worker. Imoh is facing a two-count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Nicholas Akpene, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 11 at 2.30a.m. on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos. He said the accused raped the sex worker (name withheld) and also stole her property.

Argentina fire coach Edgardo Bauza

Argentina’s football association fired Edgardo Bauza as coach of the crisis-hit national team as it struggles to qualify for next year’s World Cup, the head of the body said Monday. It was the first big move by the Argentine Football Association (AFA) since it last month picked new executives tasked with ending three years of turmoil in the Argentine game.


“We have reached a verbal agreement. We have told Edgardo Bauza that he is no longer the coach of Argentina,” the AFA’s new president Claudio Tapia told reporters after meeting with Bauza at the association’s headquarters. He did not say who Bauza’s replacement would be, but said more details would be given at a news conference for Tuesday at 2230 GMT at the AFA.

Boko Haram: Trump to sell $600m fighter planes to Nigeria

The United States  has agreed to sell high-tech aircraft to Nigeria to tackle  the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East.
United States officials told the Associated Press that the Congress was  expected to receive formal notification within weeks, setting in motion the deal with Nigeria.
They added that the arrangement would call for Nigeria purchasing up to 12 Embraer A-29 Super Tucano aircraft with sophisticated targeting gear.

Breaking: Sheriff’s Special Adviser on media, publicity Bwala resigns

Mr. Inuwa Bwala, the Special Adviser on media and publicity to the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has resigned his appointment.


Mr. Bwala who, in a press statement to newsmen in Abuja on Sunday said he resigned his appointment in order to take care of his personal issues that included his health.

Fayose vs Fayemi: Keep entertaining yourself, Nigerians – Minister mocks Governor

The immediate past Governor of Ekiti State and current Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has said he was not prepared to respond to all the antics of Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose.

Fayemi urged Fayose to continue to entertain himself and Nigerians with his Iaughable comments.
Fayose had last week alleged that the Minister was working with some justices of the Supreme Court to sack him via a review of the ruling of the apex court which upheld his election as governor of the state.

Corruption: Obasanjo hits Nigerian churches, pastors

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has accused some church leaders in the country of not only encouraging corruption but also celebrating people with questionable sources of wealth.
He said this in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Saturday at the 2017 Convention Lecture of Victory Life Bible Church International, while speaking on the theme, ‘The role of the church in the fight against corruption in Nigeria.’
He stated that the fight against corruption must start within the church.

Siblings give Police 7 days to discipline officers over alleged brutality, detention

TWO sisters in Oleh, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, have given a seven-day ultimatum to the Police Service Commission, Inspector General of Police and AIG Zone 5 Benin, Edo State, to institute a disciplinary action against four police personnel servicing in Oleh Police Station, for allegedly brutalizing, maltreating and attempting to murder them while in police custody.


The sisters, Erowo Ekere and Joy Ekere, who gave the ultimatum through their counsel, Mr. Dele Igbinedion, said that they would be forced to take a legal action against the Police authorities if no action was taken against the four police officers.
