NAF AIRCRAFT: MINISTER OF DEFENCE LEADS PARADE TO RECEIVE NEWLY ARRIVED A-29 SUPER TUCANO AIRCRAFT

The Nigeria government has taken delivery of the first batch of the Nigerian Air Force A-29 Super Tucano Aircraft in Kano at around 12.34 pm, Thursday, 22nd July, 2021.

In a press statement by the Minister's Special assistant on media and publicity, Mohammad Abdulkadri stated that, "The Minister of Defence, Maj Gen Bashir Salihi Magashi (retd) officially took the delivery of the aircraft."

President Muhammadu Buhari today elavated and decorated the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Farouk Yahaya with his new badge of rank of Lieutenant General.

This is coming after the National Assembly screened and confirmed the COAS in line with the constitutional provisions.

A human rights lawyer, Mr. Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN), says the President, Muhammadu Buhari, lacks the power to restrict movement without recourse to the National Assembly.

Adegboruwa said Buhari’s two-week shutdown of all activities and movements in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun states without the lawmakers’ approval, was illegal.

The senior advocate said, “The President has no powers to restrict the movement of persons without recourse to the National Assembly. The President has not invoked his powers under the constitution to declare any state of emergency, which must be approved by the National Assembly.

Guru Maharaji to Buhari: Appoint me special adviser to oversee petroleum, other ministries

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, Wednesday, said the Army had uncovered plans by some politicians to set off bombs and disrupt the coming Saturday’s governorship elections in the country.

Buratai also said that the plots by the politicians include using herdsmen and thugs to disrupt the elections.

Buratai who made the statement on Wednesday during a meeting with Principal Staff Officers (PSOs), General Officers Commanding (GOC), Operational Commanders and Directors  of  the military at the Army Headquarters, Abuja, also said that the plots include “ infiltrating domestic staff of political opponents, employ mercenaries to carry out acts of assassinations, use the social media for smear campaigns…”
