On the sidelines of his courtesy visit to the Governor of Lagos state, Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu during his 3-day working visit to Lagos, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba NPM, fdc has enjoined Nigerians to celebrate this year’s Democracy Day peacefully.
He made this point known when journalists at the State House covered by Trek Africa Newspaper inquired about the plans of the police ahead of June 12.
This is because there are widespread media reports, scheming, and planning by some aggrieved individuals and groups to use the opportunity of the momentous day to gather and register their anger against the government of Nigeria both within the nation and in the Diaspora.
The IGP said: ‘June 12 is Democracy Day. We celebrate democracy and we advise that the celebration be peaceful and that people go about their businesses.’
He allayed the fears of Lagosians, ‘We are ready to support you. We are ready to encourage and protect you as you celebrate Democracy Day.’
It should be noted that the IGP Alkali Baba also sought the synergy of traditional institutions in community security when he visited Eleko of Eko, Oba Rilwan Akiolu.
He also held behind-closed-doors-session with top officers at the Lagos State Command as part of his assignment to Lagos.
