Olamide bags 500k in BET9JA sponsored Lagos Women Run 2017

Saturday 11th of November, over 2,000 women turned up for the 2017 edition of the Lagos Women Run sponsored by Bet9ja.

The Lagos Women Run kicked off in grand style at the National Stadium at 7:00am, Lagos taking the athletes round a 10KM run in central Lagos metropolis and ended at the Teslim Balogun stadium.
Oluwaseun Olamide, who was last year’s runners up, won the 10km race in 41:04:66. The defending champion, Fadekemi Olude, finished second with a time of 41:53:05, while Faustina Ogbu, came in at the third spot in 43:10:98.
Olamide ran away with a cash prize N500, 000, while Olude and Ogbu were given N100, 000 and N50, 000 respectively. Different prizes from sponsors Bet9ja were also given to the triumphant athletes.

Amongst other things the event brought awareness to the general public about issues affecting women such as sexual and physical abuse, female child education and issues of equality. Bet9ja used the opportunity to drive the conversation on social media about women-related issues with the hash tag #Bet9jaSupportsWomen.

General Coordinator of the Lagos Women Run, Tayo Popoola, said the public should expect a bigger event in 2018. Head of Marketing, Bet9ja, Mr. Tunji Meshioye added that Bet9ja was proud to be sponsors of the Lagos Women Run.

He said not a lot of brands pay attention to women and women activities these days and that needs to change. At Bet9ja we see it as our responsibility to push women’s agenda, and get the women folks more attention to causes that concern them.

The next Lagos Women Run holds on the 10th, November 2018.
