All ex-Governors have issues with EFCC, except me – Bukar Abba

One time governor of Yobe state now Senator representing Yobe East Senatorial District, Bukar Abba Ibrahim has revealed that most former governors in the country have issues with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Ibrahim, who chairs the Senate Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, disclosed, in a chat with newsmen in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital, that the ongoing trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, was being fueled by some persons from his home state of Kwara.

Ibrahim however said he is the only former governor who has never been invited or had any issue with the anti-graft agency.

He voiced his conviction thus, “You know that there are so many other former governors who are in the same shoes with Saraki; whose trials have been initiated, but they were not publicised like that of Saraki, because he is the Senate president.

“Almost every former governor in the Senate with the exception of Bukar Abba Ibrahim has one case or the other with the EFCC or CCT.

“It’s not easy to fight corruption especially when it comes to individuals; that is why those of us do believe that corruption can best be dealt with through institutions. Let’s strengthen our institutions, stop giving and taking bribes. Institutional fight of corruption is the best fight we can have as a nation. It has begun, and it will continue for a very long time.”

The two-time governor of Yobe State insisted that even if Saraki is eventually removed as the Senate President, the PDP won’t take over the leadership of the red chamber.
