Lagos to prosecute tax defaulters from April 1
The LIRS in a statement by its Executive Chairman, Mr. Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, on Wednesday said the move became necessary because a large number of Lagosians had not paid their taxes although the law stated that eligible tax payers must pay within 90 days of the New Year.

BREAKING: Abductors kill Colonel Samaila Inusa
The Nigerian Army has announced that Colonel Samaila Inusa, who was kidnapped on Sunday 27th March 2016, was found dead today, Tuesday, at about 6.00pm.
Army spokesman, Sani Usman, in a statement said preliminary investigation revealed that, most likely, the late senior officer was killed same day he was kidnapped by his abductors.

‘I recognised just the tip of his nose’: mother of murdered student
The mother of murdered Italian student Giulio Regeni, tortured to death in Egypt in January, told Italy’s parliament Tuesday she had only recognised ‘the tip of her son’s nose when identifying his body.
Amid increasing anger over Cairo’s handling of the killing of the 28-year-old Cambridge University graduate student, Egyptian detectives are now expected to hand over key evidence to their Italian counterparts on April 5.
Proprietor bags 10- year jail term for raping 10- year-old girl
An Ado-Ekiti High Court on Tuesday sentenced a school proprietor, Ibitoye Babatunde to 10 years imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old girl.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the convict is the proprietor of God is Great Nursery and Primary school, Ado-Ekiti. In his judgment, Justice Mosun Abodunde said that the prosecution had established case of rape beyond reasonable doubt.

Shettima said he was convinced that Obasanjo would have rescued the missing Chibok girls if he were the president at the time the insurgents seized the 279 girls from their hostels.

‘How my 13-year-old niece was defiled by 32-year-old welder’
A petty trader, Mrs Mojisola Oyelola, on Wednesday narrated at an Ikeja High Court how her 13-year-old niece was defiled by a 32-year-old welder, Adewunmi Adetuyi. Adetuyi, whose address is unknown, is facing a charge of defilement before Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye. Oyelola, while being led in evidence by the prosecuting counsel, Mr Jide Boye, told the court that the defilement occurred in 2014.

Justice Abdukadir Abdu-Kafarati of the Federal High Court in Abuja has disqualified himself from a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki to quash the assets falsification charges brought against him by the federal government at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT.
18-yr-old boy in court over baby theft
A teenager, Balogun Segun, was yesterday charged before an Ota Magistrate’s Court in Ogun State, for allegedly stealing a baby, Aluko Faith. Segun, 18, who lives at 7, Owolabi Street, Iyana-Ilogbo, Ota, is facing a one-count charge of stealing a baby.

Police arraign two drivers for stealing empty beer crates
The Police arraigned two drivers at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, today for stealing 723 empty crates of beer valued at N950,000 from Fafem Haulage Nigeria Ltd.
The defendants, Taiwo Adebayo, 35 and Bolaji Babalola, 27, both drivers for Fafem Haulage Nigeria Ltd, were arraigned on two counts of conspiracy and stealing.
Power generation drops by 759MW in 24 hours
Power generation fell by 759.1 megawatts in the 24 hours to Wednesday on the back of losses recorded by Egbin, Afam VI and other generation plants.
Electricity generation had on Tuesday risen to 4,368.5MW from 3,548.7MW on Monday. But it dropped to 3,629.4MW on Wednesday, industry data obtained by our correspondent showed.
