Our unemployment rate is 70-80 per cent – Industrialist

Mr Paul Erinne, an industrialist and founder of Paul Erinne Charity Foundation, has flayed the brazen betrayal of public trust perpetrated by former public office holders now standing trial. Erinne expressed the concern in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday in Enugu on the sidelines of an entrepreneural training for youths and women in the state.

He said looting of public funds indicated the lack of fear of God in government circle and called on public office holders at all levels of government to develop passion for rendering selfless service to Nigeria.

“The only way to do well is one, an honest leadership.

“When you have an honest leadership and a proper blueprint for development, you have to look inwards – factory, foreign direct investment to create jobs.

“What we are talking about 25/ 24 per cent unemployment is a lie; our unemployment rate is 70-80 per cent; that is the truth.

“It is a shame that in a great country like this, everyday you look at the (news) papers – N1 billion dollars stolen, N10 billion dollars stolen. “It is untenable.

I am sorry to say that and we claim to be God-loving citizens.”

According to him, the massive poverty in the land is the direct consequence of the embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds by public officers.

Erinne recently willed his wealth to his foundation for the purpose of helping the needy and unemployed in the society.
