Benin residents keep vigil in banks to use ATMs

Barely 24 hours to Christmas, residents of Benin city are keeping vigil in the banks to use Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).
Few of the ATMs in some banks visited in Benin on Saturday were dispensing cash.
Many of the residents said that they had been in some of the banks as early as 5a.m.to avoid the crowd that would arrive in the bank premises later.

Christmas: Orphanages lament low gifts

Orphanages across the country have said that the gifts they received during this Christmas season are lower compared to previous years.
Pointing at the economic recession in the country as responsible for this, they expressed worry that poor donations to their homes could lead to hunger among children.

We hand over Ige’s killers to God for judgment –Son

A former Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning in Osun State, Mr. Muyiwa Ige, has said the family has handed over the masterminds and killers of Chief Bola Ige over to God for punishmenat.
Muyiwa said this in an interview with journalists during a service held to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the murder of the late politician, who was the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice at the time he was shot dead on December 23, 2001.

FG okays 5% of recovered loot for whistleblowers

The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved the Ministry of Finance Whistleblowing Programme that may see individuals, who voluntarily volunteers credible information on stolen or concealed funds, smiling home with between 2.5 per cent and five per cent of the funds when recovered.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun; and the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, briefed State House correspondents at the end of the meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ambode releases Lake rice

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode and his Kebbi State counterpart, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu on Wednesday released the much anticipated Lagos-Kebbi Rice christened ‘LAKE RICE’, saying the partnership which culminated into the inauguration was not only designed to ensure food security but showcase the ability of Nigeria to become a producing nation.
Speaking at the launching ceremony held at Lagos House in Ikeja, Governor Ambode said the development was a great and historic moment for both states and Nigeria, as the rice would not only be sold at highly reduced price, compared to what obtains in the market, but is also very fresh and safe for consumption.
