Return schools to original owners, Ooni tells govt

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has called on the government to return schools to their original owners in order to ensure efficient management of the institutions and improve on the quality of education in the country.
He said the sign that public schools, especially those established by missionaries, had lost their sparkle, was evident in the fact that none of those who graduated from those schools, wanted to send their children to those schools today.

Withdraw military from Ijaw land, Clark, others tell FG

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State; elder statesmen, Chief Edwin Clark; and some prominent leaders including traditional rulers of the Ijaw nation drawn from the seven Niger Delta states, on Saturday, met in Warri, Delta State, over the resurgence of militancy in the region.
At the meeting, which was convened at the instance of Clark and held behind closed doors, the Ijaw leader said in his opening remark that unless Nigeria was restructured, marginalised voices would continue to rise against being treated as “second-class citizens in their own country.”

FG bans distribution of souvenirs at MDAs’ seminars

The Federal Government has banned the procurement and distribution of bags, T-shirts and other souvenirs at events such as Conferences and Seminars funded by Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
In a statement on Sunday in Abuja by the Director of Information, Federal Ministry of Finance, Mr Salisu Dambatta, said President Buhari had approved the ban following recommendations by the Efficiency Unit.

Last Monday, popular actress, Toyin Aimakhu posted a video on her Instagram asking people to help raise fund for  cancer patient, Mayowa Ahmed.
She contacted some of her colleagues and they spoke with one voice. They were all over social media begging people to donate whatever they could. In a rare display of compassion and solidarity by Nigerians,  over N32m was raised.
However, the joy that followed was cut short when news filtered into town that the fundraising was not transparent leading to the involvement of the police.

American Diver Becomes The First To Jump From A Plane Without A Parachute. Photos

An American skydiver has become the first to jump 25,000 feet from a plane without a parachute and land in a net. Luke Aikins, 42, completed the record-breaking Stride Gum Presents Heaven Sent stunt at the Big Sky movie ranch in Simi Valley, California, which was broadcast live on the Fox network on Saturday evening.


He hit the 100-by-100-foot net perfectly, quickly climbed out of it and walked over to hug his our-year-old son Logan and wife Monica who had been watching with other family members.

Iba monarch still with abductors – son

Prince Saheed Oseni, the son of the kidnapped Oba Yushau Oseni, traditional ruler of Iba town in Lagos state , on Saturday said the monarch was still in the captivity of his abductors, 14 days after.
The 74-year-old monarch was abducted in his Palace in Iba ‎on July 16 at about 8 p.m.
Oseni, who spoke in Lagos following the rumours that his father had been released, said that the monarch was still with the kidnappers.
