Sowore arrives court in handcuffs

A human rights activist and publisher of SaharaReporters, Omoyele Sowore, wore handcuffs when he arrived at the Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Wuse Zone 2, Abuja on Tuesday.

Reports had it that the court, presided over by Chief Magistrate Mabel Segun-Bello, would hear the bail application by Sowore and four other activists.

Afghan security forces declare war against terrorism, kill 50 in an operation

Afghan security forces killed 50 Taliban terrorists and injured eight others in an operation in Lashkargah city of southern Helmand and some other districts, the country’s Defence Ministry said on Saturday.

The Ministry, in a statement, said that the security forces busted the Taliban’s hideouts in operations in Lashkargah, Garamsir and Nawa districts.

World must be ready for the next pandemic – UN

The United Nations commemorated the first International Day of Epidemic Preparedness on Sunday, underscoring the need to learn lessons from the coronavirus pandemic.

It urged greater investments in preparedness, to confront future health emergencies.

“This first observance of the International Day of Epidemic Preparedness falls at the end of a year in which a scenario many had feared came tragically true … As we strive to control and recover from the current pandemic, we must think about the next,” Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a message.

Unity Bank Corpreneurship Challenge produces more winners

Unity Bank’s flagship business plan competition for National Youth Service Corps members, Corpreneurship Challenge, has produced three more winners. 

The winners who include Ejidike Vitalis, Aromire Yusuf, and Sanni Adeola emerged during the final pitch for NYSC 2020 Batch B, Stream 1B corps members, held at the Lagos NYSC Orientation camp on Monday.

Oba-Elect, Ogunlana Endorses Tokunbo Abiru for Lagos East Senatorial seat

The Oba-Elect of Magbon Alade in the Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State, Prince Sikirullai Alade Adebola Ogunlana, has endorsed the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Tokunbo Abiru, in the December 5, Lagos East Senatorial by-elections. 

Ogunlana who was unanimously adopted as the Oba-Elect by Ipatun, Oketun and Oga, which are the three quarters that make up the royal stool in Magbon Alade said Abiru has shown a great deal of enthusiasm in governance, adding that he will impact positively on the people and governance.
