Super Falcons as Federal Government’s albatross

The Aso Villa Chapel was always a beehive of activities during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan. I featured activities in the worship centre many times in this column during that administration.
When members were not celebrating Fathers’ Day, they would be marking Mothers’ Day or other Christian festivities with fanfare. Many people would be falling on one another with the sole purpose of attracting the attention of the then President, his wife and many other powerful men in the government.

Stop violence against women, girls – Group

The Coordinator, African Women Lawyers Association Nigeria(AWLAN), Abuja chapter, Mrs Olanike Bakrin, has called for the elimination of violence against women  and girls.
Bakrin gave the advice during a visit to Kpaduma Village  at Asokoro in commemoration of the 2016 UN 16 days campaign against gender-based violence in Abuja on Saturday.
According to her, ending violence against women and girls can become a reality with laws to protect women and punish perpetrators as well as services to rebuild women’s lives and comprehensive prevention.

Human life no longer has value in Nigeria – NBA

The Nigerian Bar Association says it is worried over the level of human rights violations in the country.
According to the NBA, with insurgency, militancy and extrajudicial killings going on, it appears as if human life no longer has value in Nigeria.
It said the situation was particularly worrisome because the Federal Government, whose primary obligation is to secure the lives and property of Nigerians, appeared to be failing in this responsibility.

Govt gives Lagosians till Dec. 16 to pay taxes

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service says all taxpayers that have yet to fulfil their obligation have between December 1 and 16, 2016, to remit overdue taxes and levies to avoid prosecution.
The Executive Chairman of LIRS, Mr. Ayodele Subair, on Wednesday stated that the agency had, in the last few months, embarked on massive advocacy and enlightenment programmes, educating Lagos taxpayers on the laws bordering on tax administration and the benefits of paying taxes as and when due.

Ex-EFCC chair urges psychiatric test for politicians

A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mrs. Farida Waziri, has urged the Federal Government to ensure that all politicians undertake psychiatric test before occupying any office.
Waziri said this in Abuja on Tuesday while delivering a speech at the inauguration of the Nigerian Women Against Corruption project which was organised by the EFCC and the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari.

MMM will lead to losses, Access bank warns customers

Access Bank Nigeria Plc has warned its customers to avoid dealing with Mavrodi Mondial Movement, a Ponzi scheme, which has been declared illegal by the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The bank in an emailed statement to its customers said it had come to its attention “that some customers are engaged in the Ponzi scheme called ‘MMM’”.
