Another Chibok girl, Maryam rescued

Troops of 121 Battalion, Nigerian Army, deployed at Pulka, Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno, for Operation Lafiya Dole, on Saturday rescued one of the kidnapped Chibok girls.
A statement issued by the army Spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, in Abuja, said the girl was discovered while the troops were screening some escapees from Boko Haram terrorists’ hideout in Sambisa forest at about 6 a.m.

Lagos can generate N50bn internal revenue monthly – Ambode


The Lagos State Government has the potential to generate N50bn monthly as internal revenue, Governor Akinwumi Ambode said on Friday in Lagos.
Ambode made this known at a colloquium on the state of the nation, organised in Ikoyi, Lagos, by the Coalition of Nigerian Apostolic Leaders.
CNAL is an affiliate and the Nigerian arm of the International Coalition of Apostolic Leaders.
The governor was represented by the state Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Akinyemi Ashade.

Facebook redesigns Safety Centre to protect users

The Chief Security Officer at Facebook, Mr Alex Stamos, says the company has redesigned its Safety Centre to enable people stay safe online.
Stamos said in a statement on Friday in Lagos that the redesigned safety centre was the company’s approach to making the internet more secure for everyone.
The statement said that keeping people and their information safe was a core part of helping the community to grow, connect and support each other.

Breeder detained after dog kills five-year-old pupil

The Lagos State Police Command has detained a dog breeder on Rufus Olaniyan Estate, Irawo, Ikorodu, Lagos, in connection with the death of a five-year-old boy allegedly killed by one of the dogs under his care.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspect, identified as Lola Jonathan, was apprehended by the police at the Owode Onirin Police Division and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Panti, Yaba.

Queen of Samba music, Stella Monye, has not been quite as visible on the entertainment scene as she used to be. She was last seen in public in July when she threw a party – she called it ‘Old School Party’ – in memory of American pop music star, Prince (Rogers Nelson), who died on April 21 at the age of 57.
The party, held on July 30 somewhere in Ikeja, Lagos and attended by many celebrities, was meant to honour Prince for his contributions to the development of women, especially in the global entertainment industry.

I felt like absconding after I took over – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday admitted that at a point after he was inaugurated as the President in May 2015, he felt like running away.
He said he would have taken the decision because of the myriad of problems his administration inherited from past governments.
Buhari said this while addressing 68 Nigerians who participated in the Senior Executive Course 38 of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, and the institute’s management staff at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Nigeria to begin rice export in five years

An International Consultant, FADAMA III Additional Financing, Prof. Bola Okuneye, has said that Nigeria would begin exportation of rice in the next five years.
Okuneye spoke on Wednesday at Amanuke, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra, when the FADAMA III AF team visited its rice farmland to ascertain level of progress at the site.
