I’m still alive, man with 97 wives in Niger

THE Bida man with over 90 wives, Bello Abubakar Masaba, on Sunday condemned reports making the rounds in some media that he is dead, saying “it is the work of my detractors.”
The media had rumoured that Masaba, who had worked as a teacher and Imam, died after a brief sickness in Bida, Niger State.

Landlady bursts into tenant’s room, finds skeleton in Ogun

A skeleton suspected to be that of a woman was found propped up on a chair in the apartment of a pastor, Sunday Aremu, in Peaceland Estate, Akute area of Ogun State on Friday after his landlady made a surprise visit.
Saturday PUNCH learnt that the landlady decided to burst into the apartment to evict the man, said to be a pastor, because he owed rents.

Why FG may shut Shoprite, Next Cash ‘N’ Carry, other stores

The Federal Government has issued a seven-day ultimatum to retail store giants, Shoprite and Next Cash ‘N’ Carry to withdraw any product that contains Genetically Modified Organisms from their shelves or risk a total shutdown.
Director-General, National Biosafety Management Agency, NBMA, Dr. Rufus Ebegba, issued the warning in Abuja on Friday during a meeting with representatives of the two mega shops.
Egbeda said the agency had received complaints from members of the public about the sale of GMO foods in the two stores.

Recession: School shuts down, others record low turnout

For two decades, Telesis School, situated in the Alakuko area of Lagos, thrived as an academic centre, striving to provide sound education for many families resident in the community and its environs. But, as schools resumed across the country recently for a new academic session, the gates of the institution has remained shut to the teaching staff and pupils.
A former official in the Finance Department of the school told our correspondent, on condition of anonymity, on Thursday that the closure was due to the present economic recession in the country.

Tears as freed 21 Chibok girls meet VP Osinbajo

There were strong indications on Thursday that the Federal Government freed some top Boko Haram commanders for the 21 Chibok girls, who were released by the insurgents at Banki, a border town between Nigeria and Cameroon.
The released girls were among the over 200 schoolgirls, who were kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists from the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, on April 14, 2014.
