Lassa fever: Group to buy rats from Lagosians

In a bid to avert incidents of Lassa fever and other vector-borne diseases in Lagos State, a non-governmental organisation, Phosguard Fumigant Limited, in partnership with the state government, has introduced a bounty, ‘Kill rats, make money.’
Under the project, rodents in the state will be bought by the NGO after they had been killed using hi-tech chemicals and equipment that would make their decomposing bodies non-infectious, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Mechanic burns daughter’s eyes, private parts with iron

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man, Surakat Idowu, for allegedly brutalising his five-year-old daughter with a hot iron in the Ikotun area of the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt that 45-year-old Idowu, who separated from his wife in 2013, allegedly tortured the girl with an iron in the face and in the private parts on Monday.

Retrace your steps, Sanusi warns Buhari

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Mohammadu Sanusi, says the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration may end up like the immediate past President Jonathan’s administration if it fails to retrace its steps on some policies.
Buhari had defeated Jonathan at the 2015 presidential poll in what was described as a total rejection of the Jonathan-led administration by Nigerians.

Lagos cult leader, Small Jpron, arrested for five murders

The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday paraded a self-confessed leader of the Eiye Confraternity, Ibrahim Balogun, akaSmall Jpron, for allegedly killing five persons during different cult wars.
PUNCH Metro learnt that 29-year-old Small Jpron was arrested on Saturday by detectives attached to the Alade Police Division on Apata Street in the Somolu area of the state.

Nigeria’s economy was better during our 16-year rule – PDP replies APC

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Tuesday, carpeted the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, saying the country’s economy fared better during the party’s 16-years than it is now.
In a series of tweet on its twitter handle, @pdpNigeria, the opposition party charged the APC to focus on resolving the economic woes currently ravaging the country.

66-year-old company driver commits suicide over unpaid salaries

A 66-year-old man, Mr. John Ekue, has committed suicide in the Mende area of Maryland, Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Ekue used a rope to hang himself by the rod of a ceiling fan in his apartment on Oki Lane around 8pm on Monday.
It was learnt that the victim, who worked as a driver for a paint company in Lagos State,  killed himself  over the failure of the company to pay his five-month salaries.


Our correspondent gathered that the victim had been facing tough times since April 2016, when he stopped going to the company, whose name was not disclosed by his family members.

Probe Obasanjo or forget anti-corruption war

A former Chairman, Senate Committee on Water Resources, Senator Joseph Waku,  on Tuesday in Kaduna asked President Muhammadu Buhari  to either probe former President Olusegun Obasanjo  or forget about his current war against corruption in the country.
He also predicted that without Buhari, the governing party was bound to lose the 2019 general election.
