Pregnant teenager drinks poison, blames grandma in suicide note

A 17-year-old girl, Temitope Saka, has died after drinking insecticide, Sniper, in the Igando area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim left behind a suicide note in which she allegedly blamed her grandma for her death.
Our correspondent gathered that Saka’s boyfriend reported the incident to the police at the Igando division, which led to the arrest of the woman.

Dollar scarcity: Petrol price hike looms, marketers say

Nigerians should prepare for another increase in the pump prices of petrol, due to the continued scarcity of foreign exchange to finance the importation of the product, oil marketers have said.
According to them, the United States dollar hit an all-time high last week, as it exchanged for N400 at the parallel market.

We are being persecuted —Witches group

A group, which calls  itself  Witches and Wizards Association of Nigeria (WITCAN), has described Governor  Adams Oshiomhole as a workaholic while commending him for transforming Edo State.

The group, which  also asked Oshiomhole to put in place measures to ensure that the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state is successful, however, complained that its members were being persecuted, pleading that the persecution should stop. It spoke through its Publicity Secretary, Dr Okhue Iboi.

Controversial Nigerian entertainer, Charles Chukwuemeka Oputa, popularly called Charlyboy has waded into the much debated counsel by the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E.A Adeboye to young men and women concerning marriage.

Leave immediately, River Niger will soon overflow – NEMA warns nearby communities

Following intense rainfall and rise in water level, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has advised communities along the river Niger to evacuate immediately to safer ground as a result of the likelihood of floods that may occur, any moment from now.
Director General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani Sidi who gave the advice on Saturday said the agency has received alerts of the flood from information given by the authorities in the Republic of Niger that the present water level in the river had reached a point that may result in the flood that could be compared with the unfortunate experience of 2012.

Man, 43, assaults father, rapes mother

An Egor Magistrates’ Court in Benin, on Thursday, remanded one Humphrey Omoregieva, 43, in prison over alleged assault on his parents.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Ayo Augustine, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Aug. 1, at No. 294, Upper Mission, Benin.

Court jails film director seven years over rape

An Indian court on Thursday sentenced a Bollywood director to seven years in jail for raping an American research scholar last year, the victim’s lawyer said.
Mahmood Farooqui, best known for co-directing the popular 2010 satire “Peepli Live” on farmer suicides, was convicted on Saturday after a fast-track court in New Delhi found him guilty of the March 2015 attack.
