I didn’t order use of hijab in schools – Aregbesola

The Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has denied claims that he is behind the hijab crisis rocking the education sector in the state.

“Let me say this there is no official pronouncement on hijab. I have not ordered the use of hijab in schools and I challenge them to bring evidence,” Aregbesola said during a roundtable on developing collaborative framework for education organised by the Development and Advancement in Western Nigeria.

Supreme Court affirms 5 years jail term for rapist

THE Supreme Court, Monday affirmed the judgment of a High Court sitting in Oleh, Delta State which sentenced one Mr. Afor Lucky to five years imprisonment with hard labour for raping an 11-year-old girl.

Dismissing an appeal brought before it by Mr. Afor Lucky, challenging the ruling of the High Court, the Supreme Court agreed with arguments of the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Peter Mrakpor that the lower court was right to have convicted and sentenced the appellant.

Court slams N20m bail on surety over alleged attempt to pervert justice

An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Monday slammed a N20 million bail on a surety, Rowland Dike, who allegedly failed to produce the person he stood as surety for.

The magistrate, Mr O. A. Amos, also granted Dike two sureties in like sum as part of the bail conditions. He said that one of the sureties must be his blood relation while the second surety should be a relation of the man he stood as surety for.

EFCC asked to investigate 38 sacked Army officers

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has said that it will launch a probe into the activities of the 38 soldiers, who were compulsorily retired by the Nigerian Army recently. The soldiers were retired last week by the military authorities ‎following their alleged involvement in the arms deal fraud.

The anti-graft body gave this assurance, when a human rights group, Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Advocacy Centre protested to the commission, demanding the probe of the soldiers.
