But then, one is reminded of the Hubert Humphrey, 1911-1978, late Vice President of the United States, who in Madison, Wisconsin, on August 23, 1965, left the world with the gem: “The right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously.”

500,000 teachers’ recruitment portal crashes on day one

The recruitment of 500,000 teachers by the Federal Government might have run into a hitch as the website for the exercise crashed on Sunday following what was suspected to be massive applications by prospective candidates.
The Federal Government had, last week, announced that the recruitment of the teachers would commence on Sunday, directing interested Nigerians to apply through http://portal.npower.gov.ng.

I planned to make vehicles run on gas – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday said his intention during his regime was to develop the nation’s natural gas for vehicles to use and reduce dependence on imported petrol.
Obasanjo said he gave out licences to companies in a bid to achieve this, adding that by now, 50 per cent of the vehicles in the country should have been running on gas.

6 year-old girl burnt to death in a Lagos church

The Lagos State Fire Service said a six-year-old girl was burnt to death in a church in the early hours of Saturday in Egbeda area of the state.
The Director of the service, Mr Rasak Fadipe, said that the incident occurred at about 2 a.m. at Faith Revival Church.

NFF technical director, Amodu Shuaibu, dies at 58

The Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation and for, Amodu Shuaibu, has died at ‎the age of 58, four days after the death of a former coach of the Super Eagles, Stephen Keshi.
The Edo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Kassim Afegbua, who incidentally is a relative of the late Shuaibu, told our correspondent at the Stella Obasanjo hospital, where his corpse was deposited, that ‎the ex-Super Eagles coach died in his sleep at about 4am on Saturday at his residence in Benin, the Edo State capital.
