Ambode nominates ex-Lagos CJ, Philips as LASIEC chairman

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode has nominated the immediate past Chief Judge of the State, Justice Ayotunde Philips as replacement for the retired Chairman of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), Hon. Justice Fatai Adeyinka.

The Governor, in a letter addressed to the State House of Assembly, which was read on the floor of the House on Tuesday, said the decision to nominate Justice Philips was pursuant to the powers conferred on him by Section 2 (1) and (2) of the LASIEC Act, 2008.

Budget: N’Assembly concluding work on clean copy

There were indications on Monday that the Reconciliation Committee of the National Assembly on the 2016 budget was rounding off work to produce a clean copy of the document to be submitted to President Muhammadu Buhari this week.

The PUNCH learnt that the committee, which is chaired by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yusuf Lasun, had planned to make the re-worked budget ready last Saturday but was caught up with the preparations for the May Day celebrations on Sunday.

Fayose is an ingrate, says Bode George

A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Bode George, has described Governor Ayodele Fayose as an ingrate for saying that he would not support him (George) to become the national chairman of the party.

George also slammed Fayose for saying that PDP elders must take the backstage in the party’s affairs.
Speaking during an interview with Channels Television on Sunday, Fayose had blamed the loss of the 2015 general election on the elders of the party.

Missing mom, daughter rescued from New Zealand forest

Hiker Rachel Lloyd said she was on the verge of dying when search and rescue crews found her and her mother five days after they got lost in the New Zealand wilderness.

The North Carolina natives set out on a day hike Tuesday but soon became lost in Tararua Forest Park in New Zealand. Rachel, 25, became injured and could no longer walk.
