Court orders Navy to pay N200m over illegal detention of vessel

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the Nigerian Navy and the Chief of Naval Staff, jointly and severally, to pay an oil company, Mercury Oil Limited, the sum of N200 million as damages for illegally detaining its vessel M T SAPPHIRE 1 and siphoning 280,000 litres of Automated Gas Oil contained in the said vessel.

Arms scam Suspects run to Obasanjo for help


Some of the prominent Nigerians involved in the $2.1bn security fund scandal have been reaching out to ex-president Olusegun Obsanjo to intervene on their behalf. Those who are doing so, Sunday PUNCH learnt, wanted soft-landing.

What goes around comes around

We all grew up with grandmothers and mothers telling us folk tales. My mother told me a lot of those folk tales when I was young.
At a time, it seemed to me that she had a story for every occasion; each with its own moral. Some did not make a lot of sense to me at first but as I grew older, I began to draw some wisdom from them, especially the ones she repeated quite often. One of them applies to the theme of my article today. Here goes….

She cheated on me

I was friends with a girl last year and then it turned into a relationship. We only went out for a month but I really liked this girl.  I thought she was the  one – until one day, she told me she had cheated on me with three guys in one weekend.  She said she  just kissed them but I still broke up with her.

Court jails two policemen for beating lawyer to death

The two officers, a lieutenant colonel and captain with the national security force, had been accused of torturing Karim Hamdi to death in a Cairo police station in February.
He had been held on suspicion of belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood movement, which the military had ousted from power in 2013.
