Further to the press conference held by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele CON on Thursday, 29 April 2021, the Boards of FBN Holdings Plc and First Bank of Nigeria Limited were dissolved and reconstituted, pursuant to its power under Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act (BOFIA) 2020.

Banks, Government Officials Are Frustrating Anchor Borrowers Programme – Farmers

Malam Sadiq Daware, the National Treasurer, Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, on Thursday accused some banks and governments officials of frustrating the successful implementation of the Anchor Borrowers Programme.

Daware told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that many farmers had complained that they were unable to access the loan of ABP, executed by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Nigeria Ranks Second Worst Electricity Supply Nation In 2017

Nigeria has been ranked as the second worst nation in power supply as power drops to 3,851 megawatts.
The Spectator Index of the world’s worst electricity supply in 2017 stated this in a report released by @spectatorindex Twitter handle on Monday.

Of the 137 countries examined in the report, Yemen ranked as worst electricity supply nation in 2017, followed by Nigeria, Haiti, Lebanon and Malawi.

Ethiopia occupied the 37th position, while South Africa and Algeria occupied the 41st and 45th positions respectively.

CBN to approve Cryptocurrency & Blockchain Technology

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) sequel to setting up of an industry committee to look into and articulate a road map for Blockchain & Cryptocurrency regulation has reiterated that it will not hinder the use of digital currencies in Nigeria.  
The regulator in a recent brief with industry experts stated that an agreement has been reached to formally adopt its use in Nigeria.

breakdown shows that Abia got N5.72 billion, Adamawa N6.11 billion, Akwa Ibom N10 billion, Anambra N6.12 billion, Bauchi N6.88 billion and Bayelsa N10 billion.

Between 1995 and 2002, the Nigerian government over-deducted lots of money from state governments as it tried to repay the huge sums it borrowed from Paris Club.

The states are broke and the federal government has began returning some of the money to allow state authorities breathe easy pay outstanding bills.

As young as I am, I think why Nigeria is not really developing is because we don't embrace new things and new development, and if at all some of us want to, we always happen to be the last people to put it to practice after so many year of development being active in so many countries.

By the time we now want to put it to practice, that development would have been out of series and would have become old things and when time now come to service or maintain such things in our country, the parts will now be difficult to get.

Nigeria is the second highest importer of rice in the world

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), says it has developed new standards for rice seeds, harvest, milling, drying and hygiene practice for processing and storage of rice in the country.
The Director-General of the organisation, Mr Osita Aboloma, said this in Abuja on Tuesday at the 3rd Nigeria Rice Investment Forum organised by the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD).

FG bans importation of vehicles through land borders

From next month, importation of vehicles through the land borders will be prohibited, according to a new prohibition order issued by the Federal Government to that effect. The prohibition order covers all new and used vehicles.
A statement issued on Monday by the Nigeria Customs Service indicated that the ban was sequel to a presidential directive restricting all vehicle imports to the seaports with effect from January 1, 2017.

Nigeria to begin rice export in five years

An International Consultant, FADAMA III Additional Financing, Prof. Bola Okuneye, has said that Nigeria would begin exportation of rice in the next five years.
Okuneye spoke on Wednesday at Amanuke, Awka North Local Government Area of Anambra, when the FADAMA III AF team visited its rice farmland to ascertain level of progress at the site.

Why FG may shut Shoprite, Next Cash ‘N’ Carry, other stores

The Federal Government has issued a seven-day ultimatum to retail store giants, Shoprite and Next Cash ‘N’ Carry to withdraw any product that contains Genetically Modified Organisms from their shelves or risk a total shutdown.
Director-General, National Biosafety Management Agency, NBMA, Dr. Rufus Ebegba, issued the warning in Abuja on Friday during a meeting with representatives of the two mega shops.
Egbeda said the agency had received complaints from members of the public about the sale of GMO foods in the two stores.

EU advises Nigeria to devalue Naira

European Union (EU) official Fillippo Amato has advised Nigerian government to devalue the Naira as part of measures to tackle economic recession.
Amato, Counsellor, Head of Trade and Economics Section of EU, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday
The EU official said that recession could not be addressed with traditional development tools.

U.S. and Samsung tell Galaxy Note 7 owners: Power down now

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Samsung are urging owners of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphones to stop using the devices while they work to formalize how a recall will work.
The warning comes a week afterSamsung (SSNLF) announced a voluntary recall of 2.5 million phones worldwide because of a battery problem believed to affect 0.1% of all devices. Some customers reported that their Note 7s caught fire.

Oil prices rise over week despite late slide

Oil prices rose over the week thanks to a slump in US crude stockpiles, a softer dollar and hopes of a OPEC-Russia deal to tackle a supply glut.
But they fell heavily Friday on profit-taking, losing nearly all of the previous session’s sizeable gains.
Both main contracts had soared more than two dollars Thursday and Brent briefly went above $50 a barrel after the US Department of Energy said the country’s commercial crude inventories slumped by 14.5 million barrels, the sharpest weekly drop in 17 years.

Dollar scarcity: Petrol price hike looms, marketers say

Nigerians should prepare for another increase in the pump prices of petrol, due to the continued scarcity of foreign exchange to finance the importation of the product, oil marketers have said.
According to them, the United States dollar hit an all-time high last week, as it exchanged for N400 at the parallel market.
