He made this known at the just-concluded National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) Conference and Awards 2021 in Lagos.
Represented by the FRSC Lagos Sector Commander, Olusegun Ogungbemide, the FRSC boss said that when it comes to addressing issues of security with technology and local intelligence, the agency is no. 1. ‘Tackling insecurity through technology and local intelligence, you will agree with me that Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has been in this light.
All our processes in the last 10 years have been technology-driven.
We are happy to be one of the few uniformed organizations to regulate our processes with technology.
This has assisted us to give FRSC the status of a leading agency when it comes to traffic management.’
‘Application of IT in traffic management is a creative approach.
It involves surveillance, social network, satellite imagery, and geolocal devices.
These are the things that we have deployed to curb the menace of road traffic crashes in Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC)’, he added.
Dr. Oyeyemi advised other security agencies to do same.
‘If we have succeeded in this area, it is not out of place to introduce it in the country to curb the problem of insecurity.
We know that the pace of crime coming into the nation is faster than the efforts of security agencies.
From the insecurity in the Niger Delta, the Boko Haram insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and herdsmen clashes, the response of the law enforcement agencies is to ensure security of lives and properties.
That is the statutory responsibility of law enforcement agencies.’
At the event, the FRSC Corps Marshal won the NAOSNP Road Safety Leadership Award.
He praised the organizers led by the National President of the Association, Oki Samson.
He urged them to continue their reportage of security issues in a balanced manner.
Other eminent guests at the security news publishers’ conference witnessed the presence of retired and serving service and security chiefs in the nation.
