LAGOS LG/LCDA POLLS: HAKEEM BAMGBOLA PREDICTS CLEAN SWEEP FOR APC; SAYS ‘PDP IS IN DISARRAY IN LAGOS’

By Oki Samson

A Commissioner at the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Hon. Hakeem Bamgbola has predicted a clean sweep for his party, All Progressives Congress (APC) at the just-concluded LG/LCDA polls in Lagos.

He made this affirmation as he cast his vote earlier today at polling unit 054 Makanjuola under Sanusi ward in Itire/Ikate LCDA.

Hon. Bamgbola who doubles as the APC Vice Chairman in Lagos Central Senatorial District spoke with Oki Samson of Trek Africa Newspaper said: ‘I was able to cast my vote about 10am.

I want to praise Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for doing a wonderful job.

They were there on time. By 8am, 9am, most areas have been covered and people started voting.

The environment was peaceful and orderly.

The turnout was low but at least, we were able to mobilize some people to come out.

My unit is 054 Makanjuola under Sanusi ward in Itire/Ikate LCDA.

People feel indifferent, the turnout was low and these are some of the problems we have during elections especially the local government elections.

I saw a lot of youths playing football, some of them I tried to encourage that you are demanding for change and there is an election, yet you are playing football.

It is the elderly we see coming out.’

‘We still need to educate and enlighten our youths. What is sorosoke when you don’t go to the polling unit to vote and how do you want your voice to be counted.

There are even some youths contesting which I expect that you should go out there to support them.

The way people handle our affair is appalling.

If you want to agitate, then you must participate.

If you don’t vote and mediocre comes into power, then you take whatever they give.

I appeal to youths in the state and Nigeria generally that during elections, you must come out to vote for the person of your choice. That is the only way you can be heard.’

On the rise in number of youth aspirants in the LG/LCDA polls under the flagship of the governing party, All Progressives Congress (APC), the party stalwart noted: ‘It has been an idea of our party that when we have programmes, we involve the youths and women.

That is what we do in APC. Now in the local level, we feel the youths should take charge and that is why you see many under-30s, under-40s are taking mantle of leadership.

And it is encouraging for us as a party.

We don’t want just men alone. We want the ladies too to participate in governance. We want the youths to be involved.’

‘As a party, we will not leave it at elections.

As soon as they emerge, we need to talk to them that taking the mantle of leadership comes with a lot of responsibility.

There is a lot to be done to showcase the party and their government.

They must follow the leadership of those ahead. We can see what Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is doing at the state. We need development at the local government level also. I don’t foresee PDP emerging.

They are nowhere to be found. Even some of their contestants are some that left APC. PDP is in disarray as of today in Lagos’, Hon. Hakeem Bamgbola affirmed on the party’s chances.
