LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GAS TANKER EXPLOSION: FRSC tasks tanker drivers on safety consciousness

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos Sector Command has advised tanker drivers to always be conscious of safety before and after loading before hitting the road.

FRSC Sector Commander Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide made the plea at the scene of the LPG tanker explosion that occurred on Thursday night 17th June, 2021 at 1050pm along Mobolaji Bank Anthony way, Ikeja.

Ogungbemide, in company of Managing Director/CEO LASEMA during the recovery exercise, said that FRSC was part of the first responders at the scene of the tanker explosion.

The FRSC boss urged that vehicles owner who convene highly inflammable products should always endeavour to maintain their vehicles with minimum safety standards like fixing of safety valves and other necessary safety devices.

The sector commander commiserated with the families of the deceased and also sympathise with those who lost their properties and wished the injured quick recovery.

He said that the LPG tanker explosion affected the Ogun State Property Investment Company  (OPIC) plaza beside Sheraton Hotels & Towers and 24 other vehicles around the scene of the incident.

Ogungbemide said: "A total of sixteen (16) people were involved with Thirteen people injured comprising 9 male adult, 4 Female Adults.

"The fire was put out at about 1230am Friday with a combined efforts of LASEMA,  Lagos State Fire Service, NEMA.

While FRSC rescue team and men of Nigeria Police provided traffic control and security during the recovery process.

"Three Male adult bodies were recovered earlier today around the generator house of the plaza."

He reiterated that in case of any emergency motorists should endeavour to dial FRSC Toll free line 122 and Lagos State Emergency Toll free numbers 112/767.
