Weight Loss: Carb-heavy Snacks That Can Help You Lose Weight

If you’ve been on a weight-loss mission, you’ve probably received a lot of advice warning you against consuming carbohydrate-heavy foods right? While this is not completely bad advice, it assumes that all carbs are bad, which is not the case.
Your body does need some good carbohydrates like fruits, vegetables and whole grains to function efficiently.
“There is no reason to fear carbs, they are high in fibre and extremely satisfying. Plus, if you exercise, you need carbs for energy to fuel your workouts. It’s possible to cut out carbs entirely for a short period of time, but eventually, your body craves them which causes you to overdo your portion size when you start eating them again,” writes the author of Should I Scoop out My Bagel, Ilyse Schapiro.
So before you start reaching for the bad stuff, here are some carb-heavy snacks that will not hinder your weight-loss goals.

Roasted chickpeas
Chickpeas are a good carb and loaded with protein. Besides being a great snack, they are also quite delicious and satisfying. Unlike chips, which are a bad carb-heavy snack, chickpeas are low in calories and have no added fat.

Popcorn
A cup of popcorn is about 30 calories, so about three to four cups of popcorn as a snack is a good choice. Over and above this, popcorn is an appetite suppressor, which is great if you’re trying to lose weight.
Obviously, you do need to stay away from popcorn drenched in butter. Rather keep it simple. If you do want to add a bit of va-va-voom, you can spritz a bit of olive oil.

Green bananas
Green bananas are known to be high in resistant starch which increases satiety, meaning that you are full for longer.

Baked potato broccoli and cheese
If you want a really filling snack that almost feels like a full meal, baked potato with some broccoli and low-fat cheese is a perfect choice. The combination of the fibre from the potato and the protein from the broccoli will give you the energy you need without wreaking havoc on your weight goals.
