How Gunmen kidnapped CBN governor’s wife, killed police orderly

Governor of Central Bank, Mr. Godwin Emefiele
The wife of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mrs. Margaret Emefiele has been kidnapped along the Benin-Asaba highway on Thursday afternoon. Daily Trust gathered that Mrs. Emefiele was waylaid by the gunmen around Ugoneki town along the Benin-Asaba expressway in Edo State.
A community source said the operation left one of her orderlies dead. Police authorities in Edo and Delta states refused to confirm or deny the incident, as did the CBN management.

A source said Mrs. Emefiele boarded a flight from Abuja and landed at the Benin Airport in Edo State from where she left for Agbor by road. Daily Trust further gathered that the hoodlums intercepted the SUV she was in and shot at an orderly who attempted to thwart the abduction.

Mrs. Emefiele was said to have been whisked away with one other person in her entourage.

Edo State commissioner of police, Haliru Gwandu told our correspondent on phone that he could not confirm the kidnap.

When contacted, the Delta State police spokesperson Superintendent Celestina Kalu said the Command is not aware, either.

Attempts to reach the Police Force Spokesman DCP, Don Awunah, were unsuccessful as his telephone was switched off.
