Police shoot fleeing robbers in Warri

The police in Delta State, on Monday, shot dead four suspected armed robbers around the Ajamimogha area of Warri, after he had dispossessed a man of N126,000.
The gunmen were allegedly shot dead after a Volkswagen car with a Lagos registration number, FKJ 385 CV, which they were escaping with, rammed into an electric pole around Ekpen Street, off Ajamimogha road.
Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the robbers had engaged the police patrol team from A’ Division, Warri, in a gun battle.
The gunmen however ran out of luck when one of the bullets from the patrol team during exchange of the gunfire hit the vehicle, making it to lose control before it rammed into a pole.
Our correspondent gathered further that the robbers had earlier robbed some traders around the cemetery area of the city.
Four of them were reportedly shot to death at the spot of the accident, while trying to escape from the scene.
The spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Celestina Kalu, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent, said the gunmen were trailing a man who had just gone to collect money from the bank.
Suspecting the robbers’ movement, the patrol team discreetly traced them until they opened fire on the police vehicle.
Kalu stated that the robbers were behind incessant robbery attacks in Warri and its environs. Two locally made guns were recovered from them.
At the time our correspondent visited A’ Division Warri, the corpses of the slain robbers were displayed on the floor.
