Two men in court for allegedly stealing drinks worth N1.4m

Two men, Olajide Abdulrazak and Bamidele Owoeye were on Friday arraigned in a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, stealing assorted drinks worth N1.4 million.

Abdulrazak , 35, and Owoeye , 53, who reside at No. 10 Ifelogun Street, Obadi, Abeokuta, Ogun, and Ipaja, Lagos, respectively, were arraigned for conspiracy and stealing.

Prosecutor Eranus Ibekwe, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, told the court that the offences were committed on June 10, at Nigeria Bottling Company Plc., Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.

He said that Abdulrazak, a driver and sales representative of the company, was entrusted with 1,540 crates of Coca-Cola drinks worth N1.4million to deliver at Marina.

Ibekwe added that the first accused diverted the drinks to Iyana-Ipaja, where he sold the product to Owoeye.

The offences, Ibekwe said, contravened Sections 409 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, which on conviction attracts three years imprisonment.

They pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mr P.A Ojo, granted bail to the accused persons in the sum of N500,000 each with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case till Nov. 16, for hearing.
