Lagos begins aggressive enforcement of traffic laws

Lagos State Government, yesterday, said it had begun intensive enforcement of traffic laws, just as it declared war on men of the underworld who seize traffic situations to rob unsuspecting citizens.

Also, the state Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Ganiyu Johnson, has declared what he termed “zero tolerance for potholes” across the state while also establishing a task force to execute patching of bad spots.

Meanwhile, Lagos State government, yesterday, made a donation of N50 million each to Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states, worst hit by activities of the Boko Haram sect, just as Governor Akinwunmi Ambode condemned the insurgency in the North-East.

Governor Ambode, who made the donation at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, spoke at a press conference he addressed in company of his colleagues from Adamawa, Senator Bindo Jibrilla; Borno, Alhaji Kashim Shettima; Sokoto, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal; Abia, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu; and Yobe, Alhaji Ibrahim Geidam.

He commiserated with the governments and families of those who either lost their loved ones or had been displaced from their homes by terrorists’ activities.

He said they were not alone in their current plight as the prayer of every Nigerian is for the insurgency to end so as to enable them return to their normal lives.

Potholes repair
On the matter of potholes, Johnson, who disclosed the new move at a meeting with the management staff of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and its sister agencies, announced the constitution of 40 gangs to execute the maintenance and patching of roads with a mandate to drastically improve commuters’ experience across the state.

He noted that all the engineers in the ministry would participate in the exercise, which targets all parts of the state.
