FIFA Under-17 WC: Amunike steps up Eaglets’ preparation

Following the release of the FIFA Under-17 group draw, Golden Eaglets coach Emmanuel Amunike stated that their preparations have been stepped up with their opponents in mind.
Nigeria, is drawn in group A alongside hosts Chile, USA and Croatia in the tournament scheduled to run from October 17 to November 8 in Chile.

The Eaglets are the defending champions and according to Amunike the team is working hard to post good results when they begin their campaign against the USA on October 17 in Santiago. They will play their second group match against Chile on October 20 and then face Croatia on October 23.
“We would be working specifically with our opponents in mind. We would step up our preparations for the World Cup.
“We are going through the process and when the time comes, we hope to be ready. Preparation is the key for us and we would keep working hard,”Amunike told Cafonline.com.
“We don’t want to box our minds that we are going to play the host team, rather we want to work well and be ready to have good results against all our group opponents. Playing against Chile, USA and Croatia is not going to be easy but the most important thing is for us to keep working hard and prepare well.”
Amunike who was assistant to coach Manu Garba when they won the world cup in Qatar, stated that his team’s failure to retain the African title in Niger will not affect their output.
“I’m not the type that dwells on what is gone; rather I look forward to the future. The most important thing is that we are working and we would continue to work very hard.”
