Siasia out to stop Devils

Siasia

The national Under-23  team coach Samson Siasia has his hands full today in Port Harcourt as his team faces its toughest test in the qualifying campaign for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Siasia, successfully steered the team to bag a ticket for the Africa Games billed for Congo, Brazzaville in September after a slippery game against Zambia. Ironically, the Nigerian squad are facing, the same Congo, whose coach Claude Le’Roy has boastfully warned Nigeria football officials not to get comfortable as he was going to repeat the 3-2 defeat handed to the Super Eagles in Calabar, during an Africa Nations Cup qualifier in 2014.
Frightened by the prospect of an upset, Nigerian Football Federation technical officials including Felix Anyansi- Agwu, Victor Ikpeba and others have rallied round coach Siasia in Port Harcourt to prevent a catastrophic outing.
Siasia, led the team to a famous outing at the Beijing 2008 Olympics losing to Argentina in final. Armed with confidence, the former Super Eagles striker revealed that his team was in the best frame of mind to deliver a knock out performance to the Congo team.
“We have been preparing hard for the game and I am sure we are going to win convincingly. I am looking at us getting like a 4-0 win, but victory is what we will play

“We have been preparing hard for the game and I am sure we are going to win convincingly. I am looking at us getting like a 4-0 win, but victory is what we will play for,” said Siasia.
“The boys are in high spirit and ready for the task.”
However, Congo coach Claude Leroy is equally bullish ahead of this showdown after they eliminated highly-fancied Ghana in the previous round of the qualifiers. He said Siasia should show his team some respect, stressing that it was wrong for him for say they score 4-0 against Congo.
“Football is a game of humility and when I read that he said they will score 3 or 4, I think it is disrespect to another team and he has to learn humility.”
He said the team in Port Harcourt, was different from the one that beat the Super Eagles.
“It’s a different game. The Nigerian team had just come from the World Cup, and maybe they were a little tired. And also too confident because Congo are a small team. So we tried to take advantage of that overconfidence.”
