More trouble for Samsung as phone catches fire on plane

A United States flight was evacuated prior to takeoff when a passenger’s Galaxy Note 7 — reportedly a replacement in Samsung’s global recall — caught fire, landing the company in new controversy.
Samsung has been struggling with a recall of 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 handsets due to complaints of exploding batteries, a problem the replacement phones are supposed to fix.

Erisco Foods threatens to fire 1,500 workers, leave Nigeria

An indigenous firm, Erisco Foods, has said it may be forced to shut down its production in the country due to its inability to access foreign exchange from the Central Bank of Nigeria for the procurement of machinery.
The company’s Chief Executive, Mr. Eric Umeofia, said it would lay off 1,500 employees and quit Nigeria for a more favourable business environment if things don’t change.

Hoodlums attack LASTMA officials in Lagos, vandalise van

Hoodlums on Wednesday attacked officials of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority at Costain Roundabout in Lagos and vandalised one of their patrol vehicles.
The hoodlums went on rampage over suspicion that one LASTMA official hit a commercial  bus driver with a charm while arresting him over traffic offence.

ECOWAS Court adjourns Kanu’s case till November 8

The ECOWAS Community Court of Justice has adjourned Nnamdi Kanu’s alleged fundamental human rights breach case against the Federal Government till Nov. 8.
The presiding judge, Justice Micah Wright, adjourned the case on Wednesday for definite hearing following an application by the defendant.

Constitution technically approved child marriage – FIDA

Mrs Folake Ajayi, Chairperson Oyo State Chapter of the Federation of Female Lawyers (FIDA), has urged collaboration of all stakeholders in protecting the rights of the girl-child.
Ajayi in an interview on Wednesday in Ibadan said that although some states had domesticated the Child Rights Act, 2003, many girls still faced early marriage, genital mutilation and rape, among other challenges.

A National Diploma holder of a polytechnic in Delta State, Anene Odikose, has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for impersonation.
He was apprehended by operatives attached to the Anti-Robbery Squad of the Agbado division on Monday during a stop-and-search at a checkpoint on Matogun Road, Oke-Aro, in the Ifo Local Government Area of the state, where he lives.
