Rice price’ll fall by Nov. — FG

The Federal Government on Monday declared that the price of rice would start to fall from November this year.
It stated that more Nigerians had returned to their various farms, adding that at the next harvesting season next month, the price of rice would start to crash.
This came as the government said that the delay in the approval of the 2016 budget had made it impossible to implement the capital expenditure in the agricultural sector.

Teachers more important than politicians; reduce our salaries, increase theirs – Ben Bruce tells Buhari

As Nigeria joined the rest of the world to mark World Teachers’ Day on Wednesday, the lawmaker representing Bayelsa East Senatorial District, Senator Ben Murray Bruce urged President Muhammadu Buhari to pay teachers more and politicians less.
He hinted that teachers were more important than politicians and as such, should be well paid.

N’Assembly invites Buhari to address legislature on economy

The National Assembly has passed a motion to invite President Muhammadu Buhari to address the legislature on efforts being made by his administration to tackle the economic recession.

The Senate on Thursday passed the motion in concurrence with the House of Representatives, which had earlier on September 22, 2016 resolved to constitute an ad hoc committee to liaise with the Upper Chamber, with a view to inviting the President to brief a joint session of the National Assembly on the current economic downturn.

A total of 184 civil servants were disciplined for their different roles in the padding of the 2016 budget.
This was contained in Buhari’s authorised biography, ‘Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria’, written by Prof. John Paden and presented to the public on Monday.

More trouble for Samsung as phone catches fire on plane

A United States flight was evacuated prior to takeoff when a passenger’s Galaxy Note 7 — reportedly a replacement in Samsung’s global recall — caught fire, landing the company in new controversy.
Samsung has been struggling with a recall of 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 handsets due to complaints of exploding batteries, a problem the replacement phones are supposed to fix.

Erisco Foods threatens to fire 1,500 workers, leave Nigeria

An indigenous firm, Erisco Foods, has said it may be forced to shut down its production in the country due to its inability to access foreign exchange from the Central Bank of Nigeria for the procurement of machinery.
The company’s Chief Executive, Mr. Eric Umeofia, said it would lay off 1,500 employees and quit Nigeria for a more favourable business environment if things don’t change.
