Apple sells its billionth iPhone

Apple announced the sale of its billionth iPhone on Wednesday, nine years after the smartphone first went on sale.
"We never set out to make the most, but we've always set out to make the best products that make a difference," Apple CEO Tim Cook said at an employee meeting on Wednesday, according to a statement. "Thank you to everyone at Apple for helping change the world every day."

Microsoft to buy LinkedIn for $26 billion

In one of the biggest tech mergers of all time, Microsoft said Monday that it's buying LinkedIn in a deal valued at $26.2 billion.
It's not coming cheap.
Microsoft (MSFTTech30) is paying $196 per share. That's 50% more than LinkedIn stock's closing price at the end of the day on Friday.

Oil price hits $50 for first time this year

Global oil benchmark, Brent crude, on Thursday traded above $50 per barrel for the first time in 2016 as supply disruptions and increased global demand continue to fuel a recovery.
Brent, against which Nigeria’s oil is priced, hit $50.14 per barrel at 8:30am, data from Energy Intelligence showed.

Cash crunch: Tithes, offerings drop in churches

Churches are experiencing the impact of the economic crisis and the attendant cash crunch with considerable drop in tithes and offerings by members, Saturday PUNCH investigation has revealed.


Beyond the drop in churches’ cash inflow, our correspondents learnt that there has been increasing demand on the church leaders by their congregation for financial support towards feeding, accommodation and children’s tuition.

We spend $1.8bn to import fuel every quarter — NNPC

Nigeria National Petroleum Cooperation, NNPC, has revealed that an average of $1.8 billion is spent on quarterly basis on the importation of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as fuel, into the country.

This was as the corporation also apologized to Nigerians for the lingering scarcity of the product across the country.

In a joint briefing at the presidential villa, Abuja, yesterday, four officials of NNPC in the persons of the Group General Managing, GGM, Public Affairs, Mr. Garba Deen Mohammed, and the Group Executive Directors, GED, Mr Bello Rabiu, (Upstream) Henry Obih (Downstream) and Anibor Kragha (Refineries), assured that long queues at the gas stations   would disappear in days.

Guinness Zero: Iconic Beer Maker Introduces Alcohol-Free Variant In Indonesia

British alcoholic beverage company Diageo has introduced a nonalcoholic version of its famous Guinness beer in Indonesia called Guinness Zero. The new beverage was launched exclusively for the Muslim-majority country after the government banned the sale of beer in convenience stores in April.

Chevron hands over assets to Seplat, Belemaoil

Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), operator of the joint venture (JV) between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and CNL (the “NNPC/CNL JV) has formally handed over the producing assets in OMLs 53 and 55 to Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc. (Seplat) and Belemaoil Producing Limited (Belemaoil) respectively Friday in Lagos.

Car insurance: Young drivers 'benefit from new tech

New technology is helping to cut car insurance premiums for young drivers while older motorists are seeing costs rise, research suggests.

Drivers aged under 25 have seen the average premium fall by 5.5% in the year to August, according to researcher Consumer Intelligence.
