LASUTH Organises Free Medical Outreach For Orthopaedic Patients

The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, says it will organise a free medical outreach, in collaboration with an Indian based hospital, Lokmanya Hospital, for orthopaedic patients in Lagos State.


Anifowoshe Bello, LASUTH Public Relations Officer, said in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos, that patients with spinal cord injuries and joint replacement would benefit from the programme.

Ooni Suspends High Ranking Chief, Moves To Depose Monarch

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has suspended a high ranking chief in his domain, Chief Ramon Adedoyin, the Maye of Ife.


Also being considered for removal is the Oloyere of Oyere, Oba Adeoye Adefarakan.

Both men were accused of tarnishing the image of Oba Ogunwusi.

Adedoyin, the Founder of Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu, Osun State, was suspended for for allegedly releasing an ewi (poetry) to deride the stool of the Ooni.

Obasanjo To Buhari On 2019: Go Home And Rest

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, on Tuesday told President Muhammadu Buhari not to consider seeking reelection in 2019.

Rather, Obasanjo told Buhari to head back home to Daura, Katsina State to take a rest.

The former president said these and more in a letter he wrote to Buhari, titled: “The Way Out: A Clarion Call for Coalition for Nigeria Movement.”

He said Buhari had performed far below expectation and should honourably “dismount from the horse”.

States To Commence Cattle Colonies Next Week – FG

The Federal Government says work will commence next week on cattle colonies in states that has indicated interest to establish them.

Chief Audu Ogbeh, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, disclosed this on Friday during a visit to the Agriculture and Veterinary Complex of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State.

Ogbeh said the National Economic Council on Thursday set up a 10-member committee comprising the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, as Chairman and nine governors to facilitate the commencement of the cattle colonies in interested states.

I'm Not In A Hurry To Do Anything – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said he is not in a hurry to do anything.

Buhari said this on Thursday night when he hosted chieftains of the All Progressives Congress to a dinner at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said he would usually sit and reflect thoroughly on issues, come up with solutions based on a clear conscience and then proceed to make his decisions public.

The President, Alhaji Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday night said he went into coma when in 2015 former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, called to congratulate him as having emerged as winner of that year’s presidential election.


Buhari, who spoke when he hosted chieftains of the APC to a dinner at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, said his emergence as president was as a result of the use of the Permanent Voter Cards.

2019: Bola Tinubu Calls For ‘Impactful Reforms’

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has called for impactful reforms for the ruling party to fulfil its pledge to the Nigerian people.


Tinubu said this at the Daily Trust Annual Lecture Series on Thursday, where he spoke on: “Nigeria and challenges of 2019: This is not a game.”

Tinubu said a lot of people see elections as the end of a process but that the fulfilment of electoral promises is the next phase after attaining any office.

Banks, Government Officials Are Frustrating Anchor Borrowers Programme – Farmers

Malam Sadiq Daware, the National Treasurer, Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, on Thursday accused some banks and governments officials of frustrating the successful implementation of the Anchor Borrowers Programme.

Daware told the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja that many farmers had complained that they were unable to access the loan of ABP, executed by the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Retirement: General Sues Nigerian Army

The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal has slated March 15 for the hearing of two applications challenging the alleged illegal retirement of Major General Ibrahim Sani from the Nigerian Army.

Before the retirement, General Sani was Chief of Transformation and Innovation Centre of the Nigerian Army.

A three-member panel of justices, led by Justice Abubakar Datti Yahaya, on Wednesday adjourned to enable the new counsel to Sani, Magaji Mahmoud (SAN), file the relevant processes.

LASEMA Rescues Woman Stuck In Mud Under Third Mainland Bridge (Photos)

Lagos State Emergency Management Agency Response Team rescued a middle aged woman stuck in the mud under the Third Mainland Bridge, inward Berger-Iyana Oworo in the early hours of Wednesday.


This incident is coming barely two weeks after a similar incident wherein a middle aged man was rescued alive by the LASEMA Response Team and other emergency agencies at the opposite end of the same environment.

Kidnappers Kill Two Policemen, Abduct Four Canadians, Americans In Kaduna

Kidnappers have killed two Nigerian policemen and abducted two Americans and two Canadians in Kaduna state.

The foreigners were kidnapped on Kwoi-Jere Road in Kagarko Local Government Area on their way to Abuja from Kafanchan and Kaura.

They were ambushed around 7pm on Tuesday.
Kidnapping is rife in the Kaduna axis of the country and despite efforts by the police in flushing out suspects, it continues.

Court Orders Idris To Unseal Peace Corps’ Head Office

Justice John Tsoho of the Federal High Court Abuja on Monday ordered the Inspector-General of Police to without delay unseal the headquarters of the Peace Corps of Nigeria.


The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the head office of the corps located in Jabi area of the FCT was arbitrarily sealed on the order of the IGP.

Delivering judgment, Tsoho also ordered the police and other security agencies laying siege on the premises to vacate the place forthwith.

Nigeria Ranks Second Worst Electricity Supply Nation In 2017

Nigeria has been ranked as the second worst nation in power supply as power drops to 3,851 megawatts.
The Spectator Index of the world’s worst electricity supply in 2017 stated this in a report released by @spectatorindex Twitter handle on Monday.

Of the 137 countries examined in the report, Yemen ranked as worst electricity supply nation in 2017, followed by Nigeria, Haiti, Lebanon and Malawi.

Ethiopia occupied the 37th position, while South Africa and Algeria occupied the 41st and 45th positions respectively.

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, has disclosed that the title of Aare Ona Kakanfo was bestowed on Dr. Gani Adams because of his passionate commitment to the protection of the culture and territorial integrity of Yorubaland.

Ekiti Bars Fayemi From Holding Public Office, To Refund N2.75b

White Paper released by the Ekiti State Government has barred a former Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, from holding any public office in the state for 10 years.

The state also barred a former Commissioner for Finance in the administration of Fayemi, Dapo Kolawole, for the same number of years.
The duo were barred based on the report of the Ekiti Judicial Commission of Inquiry, which indicted them over alleged mismanagement of the state’s finances between October 2010 and 2014.

Tunde Bakare joins call for Nigeria’s restructuring

Petrol Queues: IPMAN wants FG to demolish 2,000 illegal filling stations

Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has advocated immediate demolition of over 2,000 identified illegal filling stations operating across the country,  to check the persistent scarcity of petroleum products. The Chairman of Board of Trustees of IPMAN, Alhaji Aminu Abdulkadir, gave the suggestion when he fielded questions from State House correspondents in Abuja on Sunday.


Abdulkadir, who was one of the participants at the recent meeting of critical stakeholders in the nation’s oil sector, said the demolition of the retail outlets had become necessary to ensure availability of the products.

Lagos Police uncover transit camp for trafficking children

The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered an apartment in Ejigbo area of Lagos, suspected to be used as transit camp for child trafficking and sale.
children, aged between three and 10, were found in the one-room apartment. The custodian of the children, one Comfort Awanaesan, was also apprehended in the process.


Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Imohimi Edgal, stormed the apartment, Tuesday evening, in the company of some senior police officers and officials of the Gender Unit of the command and others from the Ministry of Youths and Social Services.

I was offered a vessel to stop Senate hearing on petitions against Total – Senator Olamilekan

Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola representing Lagos West Senatorial district disclosed on Tuesday in Abuja, that he was offered a vessel to kill a petition brought against Total Upstream Nigeria Limited for deliberately flouting the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development Act.
A petition against Total Upstream was forwarded to Senate Committee on Local Content by the Indigenous Vessels Operators Association of Nigeria asking it to intervene in the cancellation of the bidding contract entered by the association members in 2014.

Local police spokesman Leonard Hlathi told newsmen on Wednesday that the woman, who was in the third month of her pregnancy, was raped at knifepoint.

Lagos Gives Fresh Conditions To Compensate Owners Of Houses Demolished For Pen Cinema Flyover Bridge

THE LAGOS State Government on Monday allayed the fears of property owners affected by removal of structures for the construction of the Pen Cinema Flyover, assuring that all would be compensated in due course.

In a statement by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Mr Abiola Anifowoshe, the government specifically debunked media reports suggesting that it was unnecessarily delaying compensation, saying those whose structures were demolished would be paid.
