Buhari: I Thought I Was 74, But Told I Was 75

President Muhammadu Buhari has said 2017 had been a very tough year for Nigeria, but expressed optimism that 2018 will be a more prosperous one.

The President stated this when he received a delegation of Federal Capital Territory residents who paid him Christmas homage in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Buhari, however, noted with delight that God had answered the prayers of Nigerians as the rainy season was good and farmers recorded bumper harvest across the country.

FG Names Those Behind Fuel Scarcity

The Federal Government has identified those behind the present fuel scarcity in the country.

The position of the Federal Government was made known by the Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Garba Abari.

Abari condemned the lingering scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit, popularly known as petrol, across the country, describing it as a ploy by conscienceless and unpatriotic marketers to force government to increase the pump price of the products.

Nigeria not yet ready to fight corruption — Senate •Slams poor funding of anti-graft agencies

Senate has said that the perennial under-funding of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and other anti-graft agencies in each budget year is an indication that the country is not yet ready to fight corruption.

Chairman, Senate Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, Senator Chukwuka Utazi, who drew the conclusion during the 2018 budget defence by the Commission before the Committee, lamented that ICPC had been greatly incapacitated with poor funding.

He said: “The trouble of ICPC has always been poor funding.

Lagos Fixes Date To Commence Disbursement Of N635.5m Bursary, Scholarships

Lagos State Government on Friday said it would commence the disbursement of bursaries and scholarships totaling N635.576 million to 8,419 students in the State tertiary institutions on December 27, 2017.

In a statement by Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Obafela Bank-Olemoh, the commencement of the disbursement followed the approval of the Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode.

FG declares Monday, Tuesday work-free for Christmas

The Federal Government has declared Monday, December 25, Tuesday, December 26 and Monday, January 1, 2018 as public holidays for the Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year celebrations.

The Minister of Interior, Lt.-Gen. Abdulralman Dambazau (rtd), made the declaration on behalf of government through a statement issued on Wednesday by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr Abubakar Magaji.

Traffic offenders to pay N100,000 fine, says FRSC

Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, says plans are underway to compel traffic offenders to pay N100,000 as penalty for a traffic offence.

Oyeyemi said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sideline of the Technical Working Group on Nigeria Road Safety Strategy on Wednesday in Abuja.

“You cannot arrest somebody for using a phone while driving and he pays N4,000 as penalty. And almost immediately he goes back to commit same offence.
